For generations, folks have been hiking up to see the North Shore Western Red Cedar which has been one of the world record trees (63.5 ft circumference, 19.5ft diameter, 174ft tall) in the Quinault Valley. Well, sadly, a couple of weeks ago during a wind and rain storm, it split and fell. It will be greatly missed by local residents and visitors to Lake Quinault.
